| Car theft in Long Beach went down 47% when Randall "Memphis" Raines walked away from the life. He gets dragged back into it by assuming the job his brother Kip screwed up for stolen-car broker Raymond Calitri: steal 50 exotic cars and have them on a container ship by 8 AM Friday morning, and he got this news on a Monday. With Calitri threatening to kill him and Kip, and the police GRAB unit breathing down his neck, Memphis reassembles his old crew and attempts to pull off the logistically impossible. |

Excellent companion piece to the flopperoo THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS
How the combination of an actor of Cage's talent and a producer with the
wealth, experience and clout of Jerry Bruckheimer could only come up with
this lame-brained mega-boring, non-event of a remake, I just can't fathom.
Nicolas Cage plays, well Nicolas Cage pretty well (I KNOW he's supposed to
be Memphis Raines, but lets not be pedantic)
What's wrong with this film? absolutely everything! Hello? this was
originally a car-chase film....not ANY car chase film, simply the best that
had ever been seen in 1974. That's why it was a monstrous cinematic
hit...everyone was talking about it and queuing at the box office TWO
sessions ahead to see it! (I was one of them). What the hell was this? a
two hour talk-fest with some token action at the beginning and the most
disappointing of climactic chases lasting barely 8 minutes and culminating
in the most underwhelming of digitised jumps you ever saw. H B Halicki, the
producer and star of the original would be turning in his grave. Also,
classic car or not, Cage's Shelby Mustang cannot hold a candle to the
formidable Yellow Mach 1 in the '74 original!
It would appear 90% of IMDb reviewers have not seen the original, I don't
think half of them even knew there WAS one. Probably just as
well!
Utter screaming disappointment to be marked down as yet another pointless
and frivolous remake!
