| Dutch and his group of commandos are hired by the CIA to rescue downed airmen from guerillas in a Central American jungle. The mission goes well but as they return they find that something is hunting them. Nearly invisible, it blends in with the forest, taking trophies from the bodies of it's victims as it goes along. Occasionally seeing through it's eyes, the audience sees it is an intelligent alien hunter, hunting them for sport, killing them off one at a time. |

The film never forgets what it came out to do, and carries its goals out with ease. It is more than entertaining. It is not merely good. It is excellent.
The film solidified Arnold as a pure action star and John McTiernan as the
future director of "Die Hard." Yes, I'm talking about "Predator."
I don't think I've seen a sci-fi film quite as good as "Predator" other than
the two "Terminator" films.
Arnold Schwarzenegger is at the top of his game as Major Alan "Dutch"
Schaeffer, whom is sent into South American jungles to rescue some American
Cabinet Members. But upon arrival, Dutch and his team encounter something so
deadly...so sinister...and so darn scary that you can't help but be giddy
with delight.
I can safely say that the most underrated thing about this movie is the
movie itself. Having 7.2 stars on IMDb is nice, but it deserves more. Top
250, anyone?
Originally the alien hunter, played by Kevin Peter Hall, was going to be
played be Jean Claude Van-Damme; he was fired after complaining the suit was
stuffy and made him hot.
After the RIDICULOUS creature was left without an actor, the directors
realized that to make the film scary, they needed something that didn't
resemble a bug. So, they hired the best creature effects artist ever: Stan
Winston, who, with the help of James Cameron, developed sketches for the new
Predator. Any boy, did it pay off.
Seeing something on screen taller and bulkier than Schwarzenegger is enough
to give you the jeepers, but imagining that Dutch is out in the middle of
nowhere with only instinct and crudely made weapons is another
thing.
I think the final showdown of the film is not only great, but symbolic. It
is man against nature; his only weapons being, ironically, nature (crossbow,
etc.). That is what tops this film off, headed in the beginning by some
great pyrotechnics and excellent acting. Schwarzenegger pulls off the role
with utter belief. He is without a doubt the most underrated action star out
there.
The film never forgets what it came out to do, and carries its goals out
with ease. It is more than entertaining. It is not merely
good.
It is excellent. One of the best action movies out there.
Don't miss this film.
5/5 stars -
